A MISTAKE SHE MADE

Every morning she wakes up and looks around her room
Then she sighs and gets up for another day of doom
She looks into the mirror at her tear stained face
Then she looks away completely filled with disgrace
She puts on a pair of pants and a brightly colored shirt
Then she throws on a fake smile to force away the hurt
She goes downstairs and greets her mom
Her mom assumes that her world is calm
She grabs some breakfast and heads out the door
Her shoulders hunched and her focus on the floor
This same old routine everyday
Nothing ever changes, the pain never goes away

Last year she never had a thing to worry about
She had all she needed, no reason to pout
She had a boyfriend who could give her the world
A happy guy who really cared about his girl
Then things started heading down hill
Her world seemed like it was standing still
She waited for him outside his class
Then she told him it had to end at last
He listened to her and he said okay
Then he turned and she watched him walk away
A day later she realized what she had done
It was too late he’d already moved on

There hasn’t been a day since then
That she doesn’t think about him again
She thinks of all the ways to get him back
But it never works and her heart continues to crack
It’s been a year and half and they are still friends
He’s moved on to other girls and she pretends
She pretends she’s found another guy
And that he lifts her spirits up so high
But secretly everyone knows that’s not true
They know she still loves him and wishes he knew
She doesn’t understand why she can never forget
The way she really feels and all of her regret

A close friend of hers has caught his eye
Sometimes she wants to lie down and die
He never thinks about those days that they spent
He never realizes just how much he meant
To that girl who told him it wasn’t meant to be
And now she’s even willing to beg down on her knees
Hasn’t he noticed that all she does is call
And hasn’t he noticed that she could give him it all
I know if he reads this he’ll know her love is true
It’s amazing to think that this guy is you
